Week 3 - Brooklyn Flea

A sweltering Sunday, I go off in search of street-cart food (mmm turkeyburger) and some vintage jewelery at Brooklyn Flea.

Not only can you get jewelery, you can also find native big-game to mount on your wall.

And a BUCKET of lemonade.

Luckily there are bathrooms around.

Socrates Sculpture Park, Part 2

Week 2 - Socrates Sculpture Park

I stayed in Queens this week and took a quick walk over to the Socrates Sculpture Park:

Even from the entrance, it looks like it's gonna be cool.

It's more park than sculpture but that just means there's plenty of open space to spread out, do tai chi, or sit and read (The Symposium for me, naturally). However, I love the sculptures that are there. They use the space extremely well. I took way more pictures than this but these are my favorites:

And a few upcoming sculptures as well:

There's beautiful art, places to sit, it's by the water and dogs and kids are allowed. It's a gorgeous pace to visit, the Platonic ideal of parks.

So what's the point?

What's the point? There isn't one. I like taking pictures, I need to explore the city more, it's free to start a blog and I like showing off. This was inevitable really.

Every Sunday I'm gonna go for a walk somewhere I haven't been before and take pictures to be uploaded that day. Every Sunday. Sometimes during the week if I actually develop a life and go out. Like when I had Shake Shack in the park with Elizabeth...

And maybe I'll throw in a few older pictures from the last three years. But at least every Sunday, some place new and some new shots to go with it.

Week 1 - Highline & Brunch

This week my college friend Elizabeth was in town. She suggested we meet up and I immediately came back with "WE SHOULD DO THE HIGHLINE NEVER BEEN OMG"

Three years and I've never been up there. Whoops.

Before I get my caffene in convenient chai form, I see some weird shit.

Finally, up at the highline. I'm all for the ironic convergence of old and new, bring it on.

Elizabeth wanted to go to the Strand, since she's never been and I was happy to oblige since I love the place (just don't tell the other bookstore I work for). We cut through Greenwich and I found Pastis, which I had heard of but never seen before. Still haven't been but the signage sure is nice.

We actually went to Virage on 7th and 2nd for brunch. I've been there so many times I completely forgot to take a picture. I should have taken one of the food (sunnyside up eggs, Mediterranean salad, pita, and mimosa) which was tasty as always.

We met up kinda early so the streets were super quiet. Like, I Am Legend quiet. After a quick hike to Madison Square Park, we found a few more people. Look at all the sheeple lines up for Shake Shack, what zombies!

And you've got to appreciate the interactive (and slightly spooky) art.

Next week.... who knows? Haven't decided where to go next. Suggestions are welcome!
